All aboard! Step inside the Blackville Discovery Center's interactive train-inspired museum where visitors journey back in time to the Civil War, when the union army under the command of the infamous General William T. Sherman crossed the Savannah River in early February, 1865, cutting a 30- mile path of destruction. This informative museum shares the rich history of Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell and Orangeburg counties and features interactive displays depicting the beautiful countryside and exploring the region's history. Exhibits focus on the early phase of Gen. Sherman's Civil War campaign through the Carolinas and the important role trains have played in the Salkehatchie history.
