The Colleton County Courthouse is one of four structures on the National Register of Historic Places in Colleton County.
The front portico design is credited to Robert Mills, designer of the Washington Monument and many South Carolina courthouses.
It was built by William N. Thompson.
Completed in the fall of 1822, the structure is Greek Revival style.
Its outside walls are three bricks thick, coated on the outside to appear as stone.
